Acid Pro 7 is Still Relevant in my Studio

Acid Pro 7

Acid Pro 7 is Still Relevant in my Studio

In the world of DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) technology, many average artists with big ideas have rising to greatness, without the help of professional musicians. In the old days, it took a full band and often backup singers to make a recording in a studio, not to mention top engineers and big dollars to book the studios to begin with. Still some artist do kick out big bucks in class A studios to make their recordings, but this is not always necessary to produce a quality track. For some they simply invest in better equipment after they produce a hit, but start out with a decent home recording studio.

Personally, I have a few music production software applications and use different ones for different reasons and effects. I know I am not a professional keyboardist, however I can do a little work and DAW technology and MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) applications makes it possible to get good results, but nothing replaces a top quality keyboarding, but there is a solution in the absence of one and that is Acid Pro 7 loop based production software.

Acid Pro 7 is still a 32 bit application, whereby programs like Reason 7 and Cubase 7 are 64 bit platforms. I use a few applications, some 64 bits and some 32 bits. My main programs are Sony Acid Pro 7, Adobe Audition 3, Steinberg Cubase 7 and Propellerhead Reason 6.5, I use them along with VST technology and Recycle to name a few. I use them for different reasons and by doing so I can achieve different results.

I like (32 bit) Audition 3 as a mastering program, (64 bit) Reason 6.5 is all around as far as making beats, editing and doing vocal tracks with music, but in my opinion (64) Cubase 7 is better for making my vocal track productions with music and because of my limited keyboarding skills (32) Acid Pro 7, is the ultimate loop based production software application. And for those who do not have Acid pro 7 in their repertoire, at this time it is very cheap to purchase ($150-$200) depending on the vender, because Sony knows it is old technology (32 bits) and has to upgrade it to a 64 bit platform soon in Acid Pro 8. But even as a 32 bit software application Sony has an updated download now, that works fine on Windows 7-64 bits, but you cannot Rewire Sony Acid with 64 bits platform software applications such as Cubase 7 and Reason 7.

However, I choose not the Rewire anymore anyway, since Reason evolved into a full range studio, to me it now seems obsolete. Rewire was great when Reason was only good for music production and a program like Acid or Cubase was used to make full productions to include vocals, but now all of them are complete one stop studios. So now I simply export and import stereo tracks for one program to the other, synchronizing the BPM. It saves power for my vocal tracks which is sometimes necessary with Cubase 7, which uses a lot of power in full productions applications, which is one of its weak points, whereby you can use 15 or 20 tracks on Reason 6.5 or 7 and Acid Pro 7, Cubase 7 might give you about 8 or 10 safely for the same processing power. A good Cubase 7 studio will require about 16 GB of Ram in my opinion. Whereby 8 GB of Ram will be more than enough on Acid Pro 7 and Reason 6.5 or 7. But if you import stereo tracks into Cubase using instrumentation sparingly you will be fine with using VST on vocals mainly.

Anyway with Acid Pro 7, you can create great musical compositions in a short amount of time compared to Reason, Cubase and Audition as well as Pro Tools, Logic and even Fruity Loops, because of its very user friendly workspace. Its explorer window is so user friendly and its interactive tutorial makes doing some of the most complex tasks simple and on the fly. And with the loop construction kits out there today, you can create some of the most contemporary sounds as well as sounds from all ages, genres and complexities. For music production Acid Pro 7 is still the best on the market today and it will only get better with the introduction of Acid Pro 8, which I anticipate will be coming soon, due to super low pricing of Acid Pro 7.

However as a full production software Cubase 7 is probably the best out there, even better than Pro Tools 11 according to most reviews, but you need a powerful machine to run it. And for those with a average to good machine Reason 7 is the way to go as an all around and all in one production program.

The Record-Reason DAW Recovery Anew

The Record-Reason DAW Recovery Anew

I guess you can call it a breather, but I have been so busy that I paid little attention to the upgrades and updates in DAW software.  With the prices for high performance computers gone down and the software applications are so complete you could probably build a studio cheaper now than you could two years ago.

I just thought I might share something that came across me over the internet a couple of days ago.  Record and Reason Duo is upgrading due the end of the summer and is now putting out the BETA version for current users to test.

What is exciting about this upgrade is that several software application issues have been addressed.  Three that really deserve mentioning are the Dr. Octo Rex Player, the Neptune and the Kong Drum Designer, which gives Record/Reason Duo more of a VST feel to it, with your vocals synthesis and drums beats and Propellerheads all but knocked Acid Pro out the box making the use of construction kits seamless with the Dr. Octo Rex Player.  Check out the short videos on the features.

And, now I have pledged to confidentiality as I will get a first shot and view at the program as a BETA user, to help get the bugs out and learn the program before its release.  I think my next DAW project will be very exciting.

Reason 5 and Record 1.5

Reason 5 and Record 1.5 BETA Versions

Rumor is BETA users get a free upgrade, when it is released they keep the new versions.  I do not know about that but for technical reasons I will join the BETA team this time, with or without the free product at the end of the testing phase, because there is no better way to learn the program.

Gambino Drops NaQuila’s Charges

The New World Order Song 2

Gambino Drops NaQuila’s Charges

Due to current circumstances NaQuila’s album release date has been pushed back.  After personal feelings got in the way of business, emotions flared and arguments got out of control.  Personally, I think it was a great job by Law Enforcement in Avon Park and Highlands County and preventative measures should be practiced more often.  Nobody even got injured in what seemed to be a dead-end and a dooms day to come.  But now for me I am refreshed and see light at the other end of the tunnel.

With so much going on we have to get this one behind us.  There are prospects for a world tour; I am on my time trying to find the proper production networks to make this happen.  I have the Capstone Zulu BETA Release that is very revealing.

All the DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) Projects have been a great experience overall.  I would like to build a studio at the Commercial Site for about $40G or less though charitable donations and grants.

I almost completed the Production Process of the music industry and as much as I would like to give an in-depth report there are so many obligations to be fulfilled, between the non profit activities and music production processes.  The music studio would tie them together if located in the proper place, so there is a lot up in the air.

As for NaQuila everything has been put on hold pending the courts verification as well as decision based upon the request of the victim ( I ) that wants no further legal actions.  I never wanted her to be charged with anything to start with. We needed a cool off period, I personally think she caught cold feet, wanting instant results and it does not work that way, our act has to grow in the public eye.  Personally I think NaQuila needs a break anyway but the meek will inherit the earth, so we have to be persistent, dedicated, but long-suffering.  This is what makes her project so special; it is the realness of life show.

Stay Tuned!

The Name Capstone Zulu & the Mission

The Name Capstone Zulu & the Mission

I was asked by a person who appeared to be poor, tired and weary.  His question was “what I can do for you, I ask because I have nothing?”

We live in a world whereby many people are poor, tired and weary.  I fit in the category to many respects in General I am also poor, but refuse to be tired and weary.  The spirits of tired and weary has no place in my temple.  The outside conditions can be manipulated by others as we are all interdependent in the Universe.

The Capstone Zulu, first of all let me mention a piece of scripture.

Ps 118:22 The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone;

Ps 118:23 the LORD has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.

Ps 118:24 This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

No man you all talked about Michael Jackson being the King of Pop, based on popularity and record sales.  But this is really it.  This is the deciding factor for the entire world to witness and physically and emotionally experience the power of God.

Capstone Zulu AKA Frank Paul Gambino Productions is Paul Castellano in the flesh, meaning the spirit of God like in no other man or woman is with him.

1Th 5:2 for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

1Th 5:3 While people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

1Th 5:4 But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief.

1Th 5:5 You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.

Capstone Zulu is a license stage name representing the highest achievement ever in the history of man.  Through music, writing blogs, screenplays that we hope will be produced soon, which includes music videos, documentaries and so on we will attempt to reach the world, not as a solo famous ICON but as the New World Leaders. Unlike Michael who was struck down in a disappearing act, this will never be struck down because the foundation is in the truth of the Lord.

It is not about getting rich and living large now, be aware this is a hostel takeover by the people for the people, because Satan and the New World Order time is up.  The Hell the world is in must come to a halt say the Lord.  We will be the trend setters for the rest to follow.  Oh and the money will become useless, so why hold on to it, when tomorrow it will be counterfeit.

Hollywood Energy Drinks Campaign

Hollywood Energy Drinks Campaign

Many start old and new are siding with Red Bull and Monster Energy Drinks.  Artists are filming videos, making jingles and full songs that mention one of the products.  It is anticipate monster red as being a major drink promoted by Stackz 2020.  Many artist such as P. Diddy, Janet Jackson, Lil Wayne, Alicia keys, Beyonce, Jay Z then you have people like Chris Brown, Usher, Jermaine Dupri, the Time Band who is currently performing at the Flamingo in Vegas.

This is booked as being the event of the summer, with all types of giveaways and prizes and free energy drinks.  This campaign is a tie in with Live Nation, as Live realized energy drinks wakes up a crown and alcohol pit them to sleep.

Gambino’s New Rules to the Music Game

Gambino’s New Rules to the Music Game

I will be located in Florida working at my home studio making music with NaQuila, we have a 100 songs deal.  With the music industry in a slump due to the economy “Economic Crisis,” many great artists are not getting their share of the industries market.  I mean let us face it CD sales are down and people do not buy album like they used to over the internet.  You now have cafeteria fans that pick and choose song by song on internet downloads.

So it seems that the old way of doing business is quickly fading in relevance.  Major record labels have yet to address to slump.  The idea that the economy will grow again in a major way has to be based on business tactics.

Basically the point is that historically artist went to the studio with the intentions of creating a album of about 17 to 20 songs.  Then they hope the project that often has little continuity sells as a project when in reality they are just pieced together material.  Rarely a storyline is involved in these new projects.

I think the sound of 2010-20 will be an evolving and constantly changing.  I think that the new market will be radio airplay rather than trying to always sell millions of copies of CD’s.  Artist have to demand to be paid instead of being used as promos when they make music videos, I mean commercials sponsor stations like MTV.

I think the key is not to go to the studio and just create an album, but to address the demands as the happen.  We live in a world of unpredictability’s and very few major artists are addressing the current and important issues facing the world and America.

So it seems that the wisest move today is to address contemporary issues and test new sounds to promote a new industry for a new music industry future.  I think the industry can recover if it addresses the real issues facing the industry and the economy today.  I think major artist and labels should really address the demands of consumers and make music on demand.  Meaning we should address more political issues and make more singles the match the consumers on demand for downloads.   The future of music is about who has the best set of hot singles

NaQuila & Gambino find’s chemistry

NaQuila & Gambino find’s chemistry

After about 2 ½ months of dedicated and intensive studio work, it looks like we are starting to gain more focus on the nature of the material.  We are trying to develop what will be known as the 2020 sound and will try to flip more of NaQuila’s storylines into the lyrics.  So far we did a lot of political material but plan to try to drill more focus on as NaQuila would put it, “Seeing the world through my eyes and feeling my pain.”  I mean we know it is all about Sex, Love and Pain in the market and politics is taboo but that is what makes Stackz 2020 so damn special to the future of music, she is not afraid of the world affairs and truly has a loving heart.  But in reality I mean it is a story about a living nightmare of abusive situations in a man’s world that a strong black woman simply got tired of being afraid.  The question is where does it go from here and that is the NaQuila Drama to pay close attention to.

NaQuila L. Hardy “Stackz & Female Gotti” & Frank Paul Gambino plan to do in the area of 100 songs crossing many Genres of music.  NaQuila doesn’t feel she is one style of music, she does several styles and feels she is best represented as a Pop artist because she is able and willing to try about anything that has the 2020 sound regardless of genre.

By the way the 2020 sound is not futuristic George Jetson FX, but music that is Stackz 2020 and Gambino approved, which is code for slamming stuff.

NaQuila is booked for a few shows in a couple of states and overseas and is working on a show not too extensive but representative of what she plans to present to the world in the near future.  We are in the process of mastering the first batch of songs and will put out a 4 song demo CD, for people to audition.  I think the project is developing well as we are using DAW technology and some of the technology is barely out of the Bata Stage as we are the pioneers of certain breakthroughs that will soon be the norm of future Digital Audio Workstations.

I think the project is just starting to mature and will get better with time like fine wine!

NaQuila L. Hardy was once a member of the Lil Wayne Cash Money entourage and Lil Wayne’s loss is Frank Paul Gambino and the Gambino Productions family gain.

Propellerhead’s Record/Reason Duo a winner

Propellerhead’s Record/Reason Duo a winner

Propellerhead’s Record/Reason Duo in an attempt to take a larger slice of the market has reduced their prices.  At a sale price of $399.99 it is a steal.  Not long ago you paid that for Reason 4.01 alone.  I use Record/Reason Duo and found it to be a very good DAW.  With 64 tracks that you can actually use with a good micro processor in my case I have the HP m9160.  Here are some of its features.

The HP Elite N9160f has a Core 2 Quad Q6700 (2.66 GHz) processor running on 4 GB Hard Drive.  It may boot up slow but runs like a monster, with power and consistent performance.

The book on Propellerhead’s Record is due out in March 2010.  Record is still a relatively new program and personally I do not know all the tricks to creating audio effects.  One of the really cool features in Record id the time-stretch feature, whereby you can record your song’s music and vocals and reset the tempo for the best sound.  Also as with Reason 4.01; Record version 1 has ReWire capability and works well with Cubase 4.  I am still on Cubase Studio 4 and the only glitch I experienced in ReWire Mode with Record/ Reason Duo using Vista 64 bit OP was an electrical surge noises when at the start of the song in Record or play mode that does not resonate during or after the mix-down process when exporting audio.

With all the wonderful devices included in Reason and Record the Duo gives you great music composing capability and when using the Gate included on the Mixing Console and the Gain you can do great vocal tracks.  The setback I still believe is the inability to run VST effects, as for VSTi the devices in Record/Reason Duo are great.

I think the Duo is a great set of programs, but I think a program like Cubase has not outlived its purposes which are to run vocal effects like Auto-Tune and other Antaries products.  Sure you can bounce the tracks to a host program that utilizes VSTi and VST if necessary and it is my hopes that Propellerhead explains to us users how to use the effects in the devices to create effects however as of yet  it seems that that analog signal will not process in the devices so we are regulated to the use of the devices included in the programs and we can use ReWire or the bounce feature, which can drain processor if overused.

My experience has been that you can realistically run 30 or 40 musical and vocal tracks together with effects in Record and ReWire it with Cubase for additional 5+ or so tracks using VST effects and do about anything in Record/Reason Duo ReWired in Cubase.  It is a fight and has a safe landing.

DAW’s is the leading program applications for artists of the 21 century and is giving the kids today abilities unimaginable just 10 or 20 years ago.  DAW’s is a huge bang for the buck!

The Recording Studio Dream Being Realized

Inside a sound isolation boothThe Recording Studio Dream Being Realized

Haven’t named the studio yet, but it will be representative of the location or the people behind it.  I have so many ideas running through my head as to how to finance the finishing touches of the recording studio.  It should be fun.  Maybe we might make a compilation CD of the neighborhood talent; I have some new musicians and producers lined up to assist me, being I admittedly find myself ole school, which is not a bad thing as ole school is new school in today’s market.

But this project really is not about the next series of hits or about me, as I will not accept a salary as President and CEO, until the organization develops into something extraordinary.  Sure people will get paid for their services if they are earners, but I am not in this one for the money or should I say immediate gratification.

The idea of a non profit organization with a recording studio located at the headquarters, making it a non profit recording studio, does not mean it cannot turn a buck, it only means people will not get rich off of the labor of others unless they actually participate, there will be no stock holders.  All the money goes to neighborhood related causes and the staff and labor, therefore the artist should make a higher percentage of the money made due to their talents and pay less to record, because at the end of the fiscal years all the money has to be spent.

If it was about money the saying would be true that we are as good as our last hit record, because every year we will start from scratch so to speak but not absolutely, because this thing of ours will build through reinvestments until we have a top quality studio.  They say a true religion starts in a storefront; it looks like we will be much more fortunate than that as we will start in a commercial building, as the Community Network and Coalition brings the community together.

People who I never thought would care are showing interest, I guess a good idea is a good thing.  I think this is a winner!  The DAW makes this all possible in the new millennium.
